Horse Profile: Baeza

After his third-out graduation going one-mile in February at Santa Anita, Baeza stepped up to finish a close second to eventual Preakness winner Journalism in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby.

In his most recent start, Baeza finished a 1 3/4-length third in the Kentucky Derby and was gaining on the duo of Sovereignty and Journalism late. The McKinzie bay exited the outermost 19th post under Flavien Prat after drawing into the Derby field as an also-eligible.

Baeza seeks a third Triple Crown race victory in three years for his remarkable mare Puca, who also produced 2024 Belmont Stakes-winner Dornoch and 2023 Kentucky Derby-victor Mage.
