Saratoga Race Course to welcome 2026 U.S. Women’s Hockey Olympic Gold Medalists on Whitney Day

Saratoga Race Course will host 2026 U.S. Women’s Hockey Olympic Gold Medalists Haley Winn and Hayley Scamurra, along with USA Hockey Women's National Team General Manager Katie Million, on Whitney Day, Saturday, August 8.

The trio of New York natives will participate in a one-hour fan meet-and-greet from approximately 3 to 4 p.m. and will be celebrated with a named race in honor of the 2026 U.S. Women’s Hockey Olympic Gold Medal winning team.

Admission gates open at 10 a.m. on Whitney Day with first post scheduled for 11:45 a.m. General admission is $15 in advance or $20 on Saturday, August 8.

A native of Rochester, NY, Winn helped lead Team USA to the gold medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan after establishing herself as one of the country's top young defenders. The Clarkson University standout capped her collegiate career as a First Team All-American before being selected second overall by the Boston Fleet in the 2025 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Draft and was named the PWHL Rookie of the Year to cap her inaugural season.

Scamurra, a Buffalo native, earned her second Olympic medal, and first gold, with Team USA in Milan after previously winning silver at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The Northeastern University graduate has been a mainstay for the U.S. Women's National Team since 2019 and this past season helped lead the PWHL's Montréal Victoire to win the Walter Cup, the equivalent of the NHL’s Stanley Cup.

Million serves as Director of Women's National Team Programs and General Manager of the U.S. Women's National Team for USA Hockey. She helped assemble the Olympic gold medal-winning team in Milan after serving as general manager for the 2022 U.S. Olympic silver medal team. A native of Hannibal, NY, Million brings more than two decades of sports management experience, including leadership roles with the Olympic Regional Development Authority in Lake Placid and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. She also currently serves as General Manager of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, which captured gold following its historic “Miracle on Ice” victory in Lake Placid.

Whitney Day annually ranks among the highlights of the Saratoga summer meet, headlined by the prestigious Grade 1, $1 million Whitney, one of America's premier races for older horses. First contested in 1928, the Whitney is named for the influential Whitney family, whose contributions to thoroughbred racing helped shape Saratoga Race Course and the sport nationwide.

The blockbuster card also features three additional Grade 1 events. The $750,000 Fourstardave, one of the country's premier turf races for older horses, honors the legendary "Sultan of Saratoga," Fourstardave, who famously won at least one race at the Spa in each of eight consecutive seasons from 1987 through 1994. The $500,000 Test presented by Ticketmaster, first contested in 1922, is one of the nation's most prestigious races for three-year-old fillies and has long served as a proving ground for the division's top sprinters. The $750,000 Saratoga Derby presented by Qatar Racing, inaugurated in 2019, is a Grade 1 turf event for three-year-olds.

In keeping with a Saratoga tradition, fans are encouraged to dress in their finest pink attire and participate in the annual Best in Pink Fashion Photo Contest for the opportunity to win prizes. The two-hour event will run from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Jockey Silks Porch.

On the eve of Whitney Day, Friday, August 7, fans in attendance will receive a Whitney pin celebrating Saturday’s signature day. The second in a series of four collectible pins this summer, the Whitney-themed design is free with paid admission on Friday while supplies last.

Highlighted by the Grade 1, $1 million Whitney and the 157th renewal of the Grade 1, $1.25 million DraftKings Travers on Saturday, August 29, the Saratoga summer meet continues weekly every Wednesday through Sunday. The only exception is the final week when the summer meet concludes on Labor Day, Monday, September 7.
